Mildred “Mindy” S. Jones Loman, 96 of Savannah, GA passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Richard and Allien Shellman, born on November 30, 1924, in Savannah, GA.
Mindy was raised in Savannah, GA, where she attended St. Benedict the Moor Catholic School. As a young girl, Mindy was a quick study in the kitchen. She established a reputation for her remarkable culinary skills where she created meals and cultural dishes that brought people together and put smiles on their faces.
As a young woman, Mindy had a successful career within the hospitality industry. However, none would compare to her dedication and lifelong friendship with Mrs. Harriet Konter and the Konter family, where she was employed for over 45 years.
Quick witted with an awesome sense of humor, Mindy never failed to share a funny anecdote, life lesson or lend a listening ear. She displayed unwavering compassion and generosity to family, friends, or anyone who crossed her path. She had a big heart and she was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to someone in need.
An extremely proud Mother, Mindy was always eager to share stories of her children and their upbringing. Her five sons were the apples of her eyes and she loved them unconditionally.
A devoted Grandmother, Mindy took pride in the accomplishments of her grandchildren. At any given moment, she could provide a detailed update about each one, which would always bring a smile to her face.
Mindy is survived by her sister Lottie Mae Hayes of San Jose, CA; her sons, Henry Dickey Jones and James Edward Jones (Cynthia), both of Atlanta, GA, and Elijah Loman (Jacqueline) of Savannah, GA. She is predeceased by her husband Elias Loman and her sons Richard Michael “Chubby” Jones and Benjamin Lonnie Jones.
Her legacy will continue through her numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and other family members and dear friends.
