Michael L. Jarrell, Sr., age 65, passed away Friday, February 10, 2023 of a heart attack at his home.
Mike was the owner and operator of Jarrell's Recycling for 41 years. He was also involved in boxing for 55 years. He opened Jarrell's' Gym in 1983, training and promoting amateur boxing. Mike then began promoting professional boxing, training many young men and women that went on to be World Champions. Mike also had a brief hobby in racing at Oglethorpe Speedway and other southern race tracks.
Mike was a humanitarian who continuously gave to others before himself. He sponsored televised fights that were on ESPN and Telemundo, that were promoted right here in Savannah, Georgia and sponsored many youth programs in the Savannah Area.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Amanda "Mandy" Jarrell; his parents, Leroy and Betty Jarrell; and his in-laws, John "Jay" and Dora Roberson.
Mike is survived by his wife of 45 years, Melinda Roberson Jarrell; his children, Michael "JJ" Jarrell Jr. , Kristina Jarrell; his grandchildren, Shelby, Tripp, Noah, Chloe, Preston, Evan, Emma, Olivia; his sisters, Jo Ann Osteen, Gail (Joey) Allen; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving friends Friday, February 17, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406 with Father Patrick O'Brien officiating the service.
Burial will be private.
