Melba Jones Burnett,79, left this world Sunday, October 7th, to meet her Lord and reunite in heaven with the husband she loved and lost 55 years ago, leaving her to raise their two little girls on her own at the age of 24. She did an amazing job raising those daughters and relished her role as grandmother to their five sons and great grandmother to two more precious little girls.
She never had much in the way of worldly wealth but was rich in the things that matter most; namely, faith, family, and friends. Her caring heart and warm home were always open to anyone who needed to be loved or fed a good southern home-cooked meal.
She was an active member of Lynnhaven Baptist Church in Pocomoke City, MD and also Bull Street Baptist Church in Savannah, GA.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lynda Hinton (Kerry) of Pocomoke City, MD and Kathy Ragsdale (Cliff) of Blacksburg, VA; five grandsons, Stephen Hinton (Grace) of Cypress, TX, Michael Hinton of Pocomoke City, MD, Thomas and Daniel Ragsdale of Blacksburg, VA, and Lance Corporal Patrick Ragsdale, USMC; and two great-granddaughters, Nora and Claire Hinton of Cypress, TX. She is also survived by four sisters, Ann Faulkner of Carrollton, GA, Luree Sassman of Cibolo, TX, Evelyn Price (Jerry) of Statham, GA, and Linda Tucker (Johnny) of Port Wentworth, GA, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lane Burnett, her parents, Marshall Jones and Lillian Jones Cooter, three sisters, Bert Marsh, Doris Meade and Grace Miles, and a brother Marshall Jones, Jr.
