Maudine Ellis Ricks (89) passed away May 19, 2019 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 8, 1929 to Otis and Marie Benson in Lumber City, GA. Moved to Savannah in 1955 where she resided until 1980, then moved to Tybee Island, GA. She worked as a hairdresser in Savannah for over 40 years and was an Instructor at Paris Beauty School.
She was predeceased by her parents, her two loving husbands, Emory Ellis in 1977 and Jack Ricks in 2011. Also, by her granddaughter, Donna Ellis Wilds. Her Siblings, Edward Benson, Royce Benson, Lavonia Howell, Vernell Burgess and Joyce Williams.
She is survived by her three children, Joseph Rufus Ellis (Shirley), Mary Sue Bristow (Larry) and Janice Fogle (Gordy), her three step children, Debbie Bradley (Lloyd), Michael Ricks (Sally) and Kimberly Wells (Duane). Two brothers, O.C. Benson and Lee Willard Benson.
She was affectionally known and loved as "Mema" to 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 1 great, great grandson and countless nieces, nephews and friends.
Mema never met a stranger, she loved life, her family, cooking, thrift shopping and fishing. She was always a gracious southern hostess and wanted to feed anyone that came through her door. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, her home was open to anyone that wanted to come.
She was the anchor to our family, her legacy will live on through us, she was a wonderful example of love, acceptance and diversity.
Services to honor her life will be Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Ga. Visitation at 11a-12noon, Service at 12 Noon and burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
