Mary Jane Gibson

On October 28, 2018, Mary Jane Simons Gibson entered into Heaven's gates.  Born January 13, 1936, Mary lived her life to serve others.  She graduated from Savannah High School and went on to receive her degree from Toccoa Falls Bible College and later the degree of Specialist in Reading from Pensacola Bible College.  She taught elementary school at Pensacola Christian and later Bible Baptist in Savannah for many years.  She married later in life and was a faithful wife to the late Robert Gibson in Atlanta for more than twenty years.  After her return to Savannah, she lived with her two sisters, Martha and Nancy, where the three of them were affectionately referred to as "The Golden Girls".  While never having children, she nurtured each of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own.  She always loved children and sought to make each one feel special and valued.  A woman of strong faith, she strove to share God's love with everyone she met. She enjoyed writing letters of encouragement and it was not unusual to receive a card or note telling you she was praying for you and that you were loved.  If anyone knew "Aunt Mary", there was a good chance they had heard the story of "Bright Eyes", the wayward sheep who wandered far from the fold.  Though he was a bad little lamb, the Good Shepherd sought and found him and brought him safely home.  That was the message she sought to convey each day--a message of hope and redemption
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Bob; parents Guynard and Evelyn Simons; brothers Clarence, Leonard, David, and Robert; and sister Nancy.  She leaves behind two sisters, Martha Holland of Savannah and Sally Belz of Ohio; twenty nieces/nephews; over three dozen great nieces/nephews; and two dozen great, great nieces and nephews.  As such a large family, we were extremely blessed to have this wonderful lady.  She will be remembered for her kind and gentle nature, her compassionate spirit, her strong faith, and her witty sense of humor.  While she will be missed greatly, we are comforted to know she is watching over us from her heavenly home.
