Martha Winders Gay, age 82, a native Savannahian, died on Friday, February 1st at Hospice Savannah.

A graduate of Commercial High School, she retired in 1993 after 22 years with Palmer & Cay Insurance Company. She was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Savannah, Past President of Insurance Women of Savannah, Past Insurance Woman of the Year, Lifetime member of the PTA, Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Member of Senior Friendship and Laff Group of Wilmington Island Methodist Church, Catholic Womens Council of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Daffin Heights Garden Club, American Legion Auxillary Post 184, Southern Belles and Beaus Musical Group, Thunderbolt, Wilmington Island & Windsor Forest Senior Citizens, Smart Senior, Generation One, member of Senior Group at St. Peter the Apostle, and the Ruth Byck Adult Day Care Center of Senior Citizens, Incorporated.
Preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Gene Gay of Savannah, parents James Warren Winders and Mary Bischoff Winders, one sister Bernadette Martin, and one brother Warren Winders, Jr., she is survived by 2 daughters, Celeta Gay-Quinn (Scott) of Orlando, Florida, & Cynthia Gay of Pembroke; 2 sons, Dan Gay (Cindy) of Savannah & Robert Gay of Rincon; dear friend/adopted daughter, Mary Waitzman of Pembroke; 8 grandchildren, Christopher Gay (Lauren) of Gainesville, Florida, Timothy Gay (Jenilee) of Savannah, Andrew Gay of Savannah, Zachary Gay of Savannah, Matthew Gay of Savannah, Jessica Erin Gati (Adam) of Rincon, Alex Gay of Rincon, and Sara Gay of Rincon; great-grandson, Nicholas Gati of Rincon; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, February 9th at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Wilmington Island. Memorial Services will be held immediately following at 11:00 am with Father Jay Madden officiating. Graveside Services will be private.
