Martha Jo Howe passed into Heaven through Jesus Christ on Feb 22, 2017.
Jo Howe was born in 1923, in Ohoopee, Ga. Her parents were Charles Wesley Brewer, and Zadie Sue Brewer.
She had 2 sisters, Mazie Brewer Augley, and Sibyl Brewer Kemmerlin, and a brother, "Bo" Brewer.
She grew up in Fairfax, S.C., and graduated from Fairfax High School in 1941.
Jo earned and received her Registered Nurses Degree from Candler School of Nurses and the State of Georgia in 1944.
Jo was a retired Registered Nurse, having worked at Candler Hospital for many years.
She married Art Howe in 1944, and they later moved to Savannah.
They were blessed with 2 daughters, Cindy and Bonnie Howe, and later, Cindy's husband, Charlie Barnwell, Jr.
Jo and Art, and Cindy and Bonnie were members of St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church, and Jo and Art worked in this Church for over 60 years.
Jo was Chairman of the Bereavement Committee for over 45 years, an active member of the E.C.W., Martha's Guild, and organized and worked on many church receptions at St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church.
She served on the Board of the E. Y.C.S. for over 10 years.
Jo decorated the Altar of St. Michael's Church with her own flowers and floral designs when needed.
Jo helped write and print a Book, Memories of Fairfax.
She and Art were among the founding members of the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Pooler, Georgia.
She worked with Art in many civic clubs and organizations, including the Savannah Jaycees and Jaycettes, the Savannah Ambucs and Amdoes, and the Mighty Eighth Air Force Historical Society.
Jo was active in the Candler Nurses Alumni, and started the Oakdale Garden Club.
Jo used her many talents to help her family and friends, and to serve God.
Jo is survived by her daughter and son in law, Cindy and Charlie Barnwell, Jr., sister, Sibyl Kemmerlin, a niece, several nephews, Cindy's mother in law, Nancy Barnwell, and Cindy's brother in law, Ashley Barnwell, and Dana Barnwell, his wife.
Jo was well loved by all of us, and she loved us all.
Visitation: 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Ga 31406.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday, at St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church, on the corner of Waters Ave and Washington Ave.
Interment: Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
A Reception will be held at St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church, immediately following the interment service.
