Martha Cathryn Holland

Martha Cathryn Simons Holland, 89, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Effingham Care Center in Springfield, Georgia.

She was born in Beaufort, South Carolina, but lived in Savannah, Georgia all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Guynard Simons, Sr. and the late Mary Evelyn Jones Simons. She was married to the late Harold T. Holland.

Martha grew up in Hull Memorial Presbyterian Church and taught the 2 and 3 year old Sunday School Class for many years. After the closing of Hull Memorial she joined Dean Forest Baptist Church. She worked many years at Hodges Kindergarten and Nursery and later retired from Calvary Daycare in 2008. Martha was also a Brownie and Girl Scout leader in her community. She loved taking care of her family and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great nieces and their children. She and her sister enjoyed going on rides together. Her favorite hobby was being outside working with her flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold Thomas Holland, Sr., brothers, Clarence Guynard Simons, Jr., James David Simons, Sr., Leonard John Henry Simons, Robert Thomas Simons, Sr., sisters, Mary Jane Simons Gibson, Nancy McClanahan Simons Boyd.

Survivors include her daughter, Marjorie Emily Holland Miles (Edward), son, Harold Thomas "Tommy" Holland, Jr., 5 grandchildren, John Miles (Melissa), Thomas Miles (Charity), Emily Fordham (Raymond), Rebekah Lyttle (James), Katie Hanna, 12 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, sister, Sally Belz, sister-in-law, Beth Holland, many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank everyone who cared for Martha. Especially Abbey Merriweather with Heart to Heart of Savannah, all of the staff of Effingham Care Center and Hospice Savannah, Inc.

Remembrances may be made to Hospice Savannah, Inc. or your favorite charity.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 28, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Dean Forest Baptist Church with Pastor Guy Boyd officiating, burial to follow at Greenwich Cemetery.
