Marlena “Joan” Nichols, 66, of Savannah, Georgia passed away peacefully Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Hospice Savannah in which she was surrounded by many friends and family.
Joan or as her family and friends affectionately called her “Joannie”, a native of Savannah and resident of two places she called home Aiken, South Carolina and Savannah. She was a graduate of Sol C. Johnson High School and furthered her education at University of South Carolina Aiken. She was a life-long member of the St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church. Joannie loved her family, her friends, her music, and her little dog, Mozzie. In addition, Joannie loved seeing the world exploring new and different places either through car trips or through the books she read and the movies she loved. She relished a good, healthy debate and you never had to wonder what Joannie was thinking. She was headstrong and firm in her beliefs in everything, from equal rights to politics. She leaves behind many who will miss her laughter and her love of life.
Joannie leaves behind her son, Samuel Harrison Nichols, mother, Clarice H. Nichols, Sister: Cathy Berry, and brother, Nick Nichols (Gini), niece: Brittney Pegram, nephews, Ben Berry (Jason), James Berry (Ashley), Niko Nichols, Grandnephew’s; Stewart, Brandon, and William Berry, along with other family and many friends.
Joannie was preceded in death by her father, Nicholas John Nichols and brother-in-law, Benjamin Berry.
Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment in Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
