Mark Mitchell Nessola, age 76, of Rincon, GA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2024. The world has lost one of the last living southern gentlemen.
He was born on Thursday, September 2, 1948, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to Richard Nessola and Anne Greenlees Nessola Robbins.
Mark honorably served his country as a member of the United States Navy achieving the Rank of Boatswain's Mate Petty Officer 3rd Class, where he developed an enduring sense of duty and commitment while deployed to Vietnam. Following his military service, he dedicated his professional life to the construction industry, working diligently as a Construction Manager and serving as Vice President for Local Union 188. He was a Life Member as of February 2022 with 52 years of service. His leadership and expertise touched countless lives throughout his career.
Mark leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. A man of integrity and kindness, Mark was admired and respected by all who knew him. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life and believed deeply in the power of family and community. That love for community led him to serve in many capacities throughout his life, including the Alee Shrine of Savannah, where he served as Director of Staff and organized Charity Golf events in the Savannah area. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Rincon, where he volunteered his time and skill with any project that the church undertook, especially construction jobs.
Mark was an avid NASCAR fan and UGA fan, enjoying many races and football games over the years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and always said that the journey was just as special as the destination.
Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Cissy Nessola, and his cherished son, Keith Nessola. He is also survived by his dear sister Cheryl Buehrle, his sister and brother-in-law Darlene Arterburn and David, his stepbrother Jerry Woods and his wife Diane, and his sister-in-law Debbi Lester and her husband Wade.
Mark was predeceased by his parents, Richard Nessola and Anne Greenlees Nessola Robbins, and his brother Charles Nessola.
Mark will be remembered for his unwavering love, his poignant wisdom, his sense of humor, and the indelible impact he made on everyone he encountered. We will forever miss the way he lit up a room with his presence. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
