Maritza Altagracia Morel, age 66, passed away Monday, November 21, 2022 at home with her family by her side.
Maritza was born in the Dominican Republic, November 4, 1956 to the parents of Rafaela Castillo and Quirino Morel. She was the second youngest of twelve children. She moved to the Bronx in New York City to be closer to her family about forty years ago. Maritza was blessed to be a natural caregiver. She worked in home healthcare and her apartment quickly became known as, “The Hub” of the building. Her door was always open to everyone, she greeted them with the best cooked meals, and was the building's lending ear. She would host bingo parties at her house and be in the first pew at St. Jude Catholic Church first thing Sunday morning. Maritza was the life of the party. She was fun, loved dancing, and was always dressed up with her hair and nails done ready to go out and have a great time. Family meant everything to her, and her family knew she was always just a phone call away. Except for the time she left the phone in the freezer and nobody could reach her. Earlier this year, Maritza moved to Savannah, Georgia to once again be closer to her growing family. She will be missed by many.
Maritza is preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers.
She is survived by her three children; four grandchildren; her brothers and sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November, 23, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1707 Bull Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401 with The Reverend Father Kevin O’Keefe officiating. A burial will follow at the Catholic Cemetery, 1720 Wheaton Street, Savannah, Georgia 31404.
