Maree Jarrell Black

Aug. 11, 1922__Sept. 13, 2018

Maree began her earthly life born at home on Hull Street in Savannah. She was a descendant of the Herb family, Salzburgers who came to this country to prevent religious persecution. She grew up in the "old Fort District". Maree came to marry "the boy on the block", Russell Jarrell. Their union would produce three children- Jean, Debbie, and Russ. Her time with Russell would end way to soon. He passed away at the age of 47. She continued the most important job of her life, raising her children. She would later marry Paul Black, who also predeceased her. In addition to her husbands, Maree was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Morris Tilton, her dear sister, Shirley Burr, and her daughters Debbie Vaughn and Jean Connor. In her twilight years, she also lost her furry family member, Otto.

Maree served many years on the Altar Guild of Trinity Lutheran Church until her mobility prevented it. She courageously donated her body to science. Maree would say "do not mourn for me". She is in heaven playing Canasta with Lilo, Patty, and Shirley. She is also passing out jokes- some she couldn't show Pastor.

Here to cherish her memory are her children: Russ (Sandra) Jarrell, her adopted daughter, Margaret (Tim) Callaway, her grandchildren: Johnny, Steve, Jan and "her kitten, Dawn, great-grandchildren: JC, Josh, Dare, Ashten, Kristin, and Tyler, niece and nephew Carole and Keith, cousins: Betty and Cory (Geraldine). A special thank you to her "angels" and friends, Barbara Parker and Lois Zipperer, her church family who never forgot her Eva, Jackie and Ann, her physician Dr. Karen Turner and staff, the special Hospice Ladies who cared for her in the end: Colleen, Monica, Alesha, Shontaye, Rachel and Chaplain Andrea, Pastor Jeff Webb who served her last communion.

Private memorial celebration of life will be held with close family and friends.
