Madeline Lucree Conaway

Madeline Lucree Conaway, 101, peacefully passed away at her home on September 28, 2021.

She was born October 14, 1919 in Savannah, GA to William Lucree and Mary Forrell. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold J. Conaway in March, 1980. She was the youngest daughter of 9 brothers and sisters, Fred, Guy, Ollie, Thomas, Margaret Marino, Lida Lucree, Ellen Dobson, and Mildred Bell.

She was an active member of Nativity Church in Thunderbolt, opening the church in the morning and taking care of the linens from the alter and setting up the altar for mass. She was involved in all the church functions such as the white elephant sale and the shrimp dinners. She volunteered in the soup kitchen downtown with sister Katherine for many years and at Saint Marys home. She was a proficient driver until her mid 90’s.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Wachtel of Staten Island, NY and husband Jeff, Her Grandson Scott Henderson and Her Great Grandsons, Justin and Andrew Henderson, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:00 am on Friday October 1, 2021 at Nativity of our lord Church in Thunderbolt followed by mass at 10:15 am. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey Cemetery in Savannah, GA.

Social distancing guidelines will be observed and masks are required to be worn in the church.
