Lynne Thomas Hiers, age 87, of Savannah, died Saturday, January 25, 2025 peacefully following complications arising from a stroke she suffered in July, at her home with her husband and son by her side. Lynne was born on April 23, 1937 to Aaron Broughton Thomas and Martha Naomi Smith Thomas. The Savannah native was a graduate of Savannah High School class of 1955. She worked as an office and payroll manager in the power department at Union Camp Corp. where she retired in 2000 after 25 years. Lynne was a lifelong member of Grace Methodist Church of Savannah where she enjoyed serving on various committees and ministries. In 1952 at the age of fourteen, she met the love of her life at Grace Methodist Church and they married in 1957 when she was 19. She was also a member of the Gideons International Auxiliary. In her spare time she loved getting together with her lady friends for "game-day" and other social gatherings. Though Lynne had no sisters, her close girlfriends became like sisters to her, earning the affectionate nickname "The Steel Magnolias" in later years; She was happiest when she could invite friends and family over for good food and fellowship, especially at Christmas which was her favorite time of the year. Lynne was a sweet, kind, and loving soul, and a loving mother and devoted wife. She was always interested and concerned about others; she was happy to volunteer and step up when there was a need, but never one to seek the spotlight or attention. She was deeply loved and will remain forever in the hearts of those she touched. Lynne is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert Broughton Thomas; and her youngest son, Robert Craig Hiers.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years, Launey Edgar Hiers III of Savannah; one son, Randall Launey Hiers; and numerous nieces, nephews; and cousins.
