Lucy Owens Groover went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2024. She was provided care round the clock by her children and transitioned at home, peacefully, surrounded by friends and family. Lucy was born July, 10th 1952 and was a native of Savannah, Ga. She attended Blessed Sacrament School, St. Vincent's Academy (℅ 1970) and graduated with a Bachelors from Armstrong. Her professional career began as a real estate appraiser with the Tax Assessors Board of Chatham County, then Evans and Associates, before retiring from Johnny Ganem Appraisal Co. Lucy moved with her husband and children to Murrieta, Ca in 1992 where she volunteered as a “master” wine bottler at Cilurzo’s Winery in Temecula, Ca and a PE coach at Alta Murrieta Elementary School. She returned to her beloved Tybee Island in 2002 where
she resided until 2022.
Lucy was a lover of college football, a beautiful full moon, anything Tybee and a good party. She loved playing softball and became the Tybee Island Monday night social club Softball Commissioner. She coached the girls volleyball and softball teams, volunteered on the PTA and was the class-mom for each of her children at BSS for many years. Lucy enjoyed sitting on the beach with a cold Miller Lite people watching most weekends. She inherited a love for birds from her father, Johnny-O.
