SAVANNAH - Lorraine Barras Johnson entered into eternal peace on October 10, 2015 at the age of 91. She was born in Jeanerette, Louisiana and moved to Port Wentworth, Georgia with her parents and relatives at the age of three to join a group of Cajuns from Louisiana who helped staff the Savannah Sugar Refinery. She was an original member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church which was built on land donated by the sugar refinery. During her lifetime, she worked for both the sugar refinery and Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church for several years, was a hairdresser and helped raise several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George M. Johnson, Sr.; a son, George M. Johnson, Jr.; a daughter, Jeanette Knipher; an infant son, Gregory Joseph and her parents, Stanley and Frankie Barras. Survivors include four daughters, Linda Davis (John) of Port Wentworth, Kelli Curet (Bill) of Savannah, Joy Coon (John) and Cheryl Kitchings (Tommy), both of Rincon; one sister, Roxy Barras Bryant of Savannah; twenty grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; seven neices and nephews and a large extended family. In lieu of flowers the family asks that remembrances be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 501 S Coastal Hwy, Port Wentworth, Georgia, 31407 . Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 11th from 6 to 8 pm with a Rosary Service beginning at 7 pm at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Crematory, Garden City. Reverend Patrick O'Brien will be officiating the service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Noon on Monday, October 12th at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Port Wentworth officated by Reverend Thomas J. Murphy. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey - East, Wheaton Street.
