Linda Clayborn Richardson entered eternal rest on August 2, 2020 at her home in Savannah, GA.
Born on August 13, 1942 and raised in Newport News, VA. Linda led a life of service to the community. She served as a librarian at the Library of Congress and then as a Professor at the University of Georgia, where she was proud to have taught football star Herschel Walker.
Linda later moved to Savannah where she enjoyed a long and distinguished career with the Georgia Department of Family Children Services. Her passion was to aid at-risk youth and she did so diligently and successfully up to and even after her retirement from the agency.
Linda became an active member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, where she participated heavily in the church’s renaissance in the 1990's. She was also continually active in the choir and aided in the founding of the church’s successful theatre endeavors. She later began attending services at Asbury’s sister church, Wesley Oak United Methodist Church, where she continued to contribute her time and talents wherever they were needed.
Linda’s love of theatre and music reached far beyond the walls of local churches. She was an avid singer, lending her voice to the chorale of the Savannah symphony She was a familiar face backstage at dozens of local theatrical productions and also as a welcoming face to patrons as a theatrical usher at numerous venues in Savannah. She also volunteered at Oatland Island Wildlife Center.
The latter part of Linda’s life was brightened by spending more time with her family. Her new passion and source of constant joy was her granddaughter Emily.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Joanne Irene Smith, her son Robert Richardson, a son-in-law, Gary Smith, a daughter- in-law, Janelle Partap-Richardson and her beloved granddaughter, Emily Grace Smith.
