Lt. John D. Cain, 50, passed away, December 4, 2016, after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. Lt. Cain was a 28 year veteran of the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department.
His many accomplishments and awards throughout the years give true testament to an honorable and distinguished career. Affectionately referred to as "The Sarge" he was firm and yet unwaveringly fair. The proudest moment of his day was when he would arrive home after shift and say "All my officers went home to their families today."
John received national recognition for himself and the SCMPD in November 2015 when he assisted a fallen runner of the Savannah Rock N Roll marathon across the finish line.
John is survived by his parents, USAF Retired, Major George D. Cain, and Lois C. Cain; wife Karma K. Cain; three children, George A, James D. and Shania M. Cain; grandson, Carson A. Cain; brothers, Robert, Thomas; sisters, Wendy and Stacy; three beloved Westies, Sheba, Bear and Finley.
In Lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be sent to the James Chad Register Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.
