Lewis Francis Becker, Jr, 92, of Savannah, Ga, passed away peacefully at Savannah Hospice on Sunday, February 4th, after a short illness. His son, Daniel, and family members were at his side.
Lewis was born and raised in Savannah. He was a 1948 Savannah High School graduate. Before his junior and senior years at Savannah High, Lewis served 4 years as a Gunner's Mate in the Navy during World War II.
During his working career, Lewis sold insurance for 15 years with Life of Virginia, after which he sold greeting cards with American Greetings before he managed the Camera Department at K-Mart on Victory Drive until he retired.
Lewis was very much liked by all. He was a true southern gentleman, with a personality which afforded him the ability to befriend all.
During his 30's, Lewis discovered the game of golf. He truly loved the game, and for over 50 years, one could find him at the course during his free time. His family always said his car could drive itself to Bacon Park Golf course. During the time he played, Lewis was recognized numerous times for "hole-in-one" shots and some exceptional scores. He played in the blitz up until the week before his illness.
Lewis was the son of the late Lewis Francis Becker, Sr and Lena Watson Becker. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Page Becker, son, William Marlon Becker, sister, Martha Jane Becker, and brother, Ferrill Becker. He is survived by his son, Daniel "Danny" Becker of Houston, Texas, sister, Helen Becker Lance of Savannah, Georgia, numerous nieces and nephews, and many extended family members and friends.
During his final resting days at Hospice, Lewis would often speak out while sleeping. His son, Daniel, once heard him say, "I'll tee off first". Having teed off for the last time, Lewis leaves a legacy of love and friendship to all, and especially,he leaves a love of the game of golf.
