Leonard Michael "Mike" Russell was born to life on July 29, 1951 and born into eternal life on September 28, 2016 after a long battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his sweet daughter, Amanda Emily Russell, parents Carl Austin Russell and Geneva Inez Smith Russell, his sister Janice and brother Rusty.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Margaret Mary Carter Russell, his son Michael Augustus Russell (Angela Marie) and grandchildren Mikayla Joann, Avery Nicole, Madeline McKenzie, Alexis Briana and Austin Michael Russell. His "Lucky" dog will forever miss him.
He attended Bradwell in Hinesville and Armstrong State College where he received his degree in Accounting.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 631 and the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee. He loved his Atlanta Braves, even this year.
His request is, when asked about how he wants to be remembered;
"Know that God has a plan and purpose for each of us. My life has followed the course and challenges He laid out for me. I will leave only because the tasks He has given me have been completed."
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1707 Bull Street, Savannah, officiated by Fr. John Lyons. Interment will follow at the Catholic Cemetery.
The family wishes that in lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to: St. Vincent's Academy, 207 East Liberty Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401.
