Born to godly parents on November 9, 1946 in Winston-Salem, N.C., Joe Brown was the oldest of five sons. He became a Christian at the age of 11 and was called to preach at age 12. In 1969 he was licensed to the ministry, and in 1973 he was ordained as a Baptist minister. Joe received a B.A. in Biblical Education from Columbia International University (1969), a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (1973), and an honorary Doctorate of Pastoral Ministry from Blessed Hope Bible College (2005). After graduating from seminary in 1973, Joe pastored Salem Baptist Church of Dobson, N.C. (1973-1979) and First Alliance Church of Tampa, FL (1982-1996). In October of 1996 he started Burning Heart Ministries, a ministry of prayer and revival. Joe also mentored young pastors and churches and served on many ministry boards as a pastoral advisor and intercessor.
He married his wife, Mary, in 1972 and enjoyed the blessing of three daughters and seven grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary. He is also survived by his brothers, Charles Alexander Brown, Stephen Brown, David Brown, and Dan Brown; and his daughters Michelle Howerter, Kristina Taylor, and Rebecca Lucius.
The family will be receiving friends from 6:00-8:00p.m., Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406. A funeral service will be conducted from 10:00am-12:00pm Friday, February 12, 2021 at Bull Street Baptist Church, 1400 Bull Street, Savannah, GA 31401. The funeral service will be preceded by an additional visitation and viewing at the church from 9:00-10:00am.
