Kenneth George Gonis
February 7, 1970 - October 9, 2022
Kenneth(Kenny) Gonis, 52, of Savannah, GA, died unexpectedly and suddenly on Sunday, October 9, 2022.
Kenny was born in Bucks County, PA, the second of three sons to George & Mary Ann Gonis, named after his maternal grandfather Kanakis, his name being anglicized at birth: Kenneth.
The family soon moved to parts unknown, the deep south of Georgia, where they settled in Valdosta. Kenneth finished high school there, graduating with honors from VHS. Thereafter, Kenneth moved on to studies at Georgia Tech whereupon he discovered the wonders of Atlanta; his family soon discovering institutional learning was no match for Kenneth's impulse for the things extracurricular.
It was 1990 when Kenneth returned to be with his family, who by now had relocated to Savannah. And it was here where he would lay down roots and make lasting friendships.
Kenneth was of extremely complex character, nuanced, and uncontrolled; traditionalist in his thinking yet most unconventional in his living, fierce and charismatic, yet delicate and sensitive. He found his raison d'etre in freelance craftsmanship. Indeed he applied his mind to the mastery of a multitude of professional domains. All that he did, he did as an artist, his work guided by an uncompromising aristocratic creative vision. No matter what sturm und drang, no matter the agony, it was worth it to achieve the ecstasy of "figuring it out" - finding the superlative solution. His clients often became his closest friends.
Kenneth is survived by his mother Mary Ann Gonis; brother Louis Gonis and his wife Frances of Bonners Ferry, ID; brother Nicholas Gonis of Naples, FL; his son George Kenneth Gonis; niece Marianna Gonis; nephew George Elias Gonis and many aunts and uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father George Elias Gonis.
