Kenneth A. Collins, 77, of Garden City died Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the Medical University of South Carolina with his family by his side.
A native of Greenville, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Cleveland Andrew Collins and the late Nell Greenway Collins. Ken was a 1961 graduate of Palmetto High School in Pelzer, South Carolina and obtained a Bachelor's degree from Liberty University.
He was a US Navy Veteran and retired from the US Navy as a Radioman Chief after 27 years of service. Ken was an active member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Past RA Leader, Brotherhood Director, and sang in the Choir. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Fleet Reserved Association and a dedicated Clemson and Liberty fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Timothy Michael Holcomb.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Nancy L. Collins; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and David Yarbrough of Sparks, Georgia, Sammie Jo and Johnny Waters of Astor, Florida, Laura and Tim Layton of Hertford, North Carolina, Vicki and Bob Soderlund of Roxboro, North Carolina; 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Brenda Collins of Williamston, South Carolina; several nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
In lieu of flowers donations are asked to be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2019 at Woodlawn Baptist Church.
