Joseph Thomas “Tom” Ridgway, III, age 93, of Savannah passed away Monday, July 11, 2022.
Mr. Ridgway was born on December 18, 1928 in Savannah, the son of the late John and Emmie Ridgway. He was a graduate of Savannah High School, Class of 1947 and was part of the state championship basketball team his senior year. He continued his formal education at Armstrong State Junior College where he also played basketball. He began his career as a sales representative with Luzianne Coffee/Tea, later with Johnson & Johnson, and enjoyed a 29 year career with American Greetings. After retiring from American Greetings he worked for 24 years as the Tee Times Operator at the Oakridge Course at The Landings. He was a lifelong Baptist and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School. He served as a Master Sergeant in the GA Air National Guard and was the oldest living member of The Chatham Artillery. Tom was an avid golfer and was president of Sunshine Blitz, The Noon Blitz and the Savannah Golfers Association.
Mr. Ridgway is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Martha J. Ridgway; daughters, Debbie Ridgway, Kim Bennett (Lawrence), Jamie Brown (Mike Terry), and Jennifer Perkins; son, James Brown; brother, Billy Ridgway (Mabel); grandchildren, Megan Alstad (Jason), Jason Cox, Samantha Willis, Preston Perkins, and Bethany Brown; and great grandchildren, Ava Alstad, Cordelia Alstad, and Case Cox.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 15, 2022 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
