Joseph "Joe" Brown McCullough, 84, of Port Wentworth passed away Tuesday, August 15th, 2017 at Westview Nursing Home.

A native of Augusta, Georgia, he was the son of late Joe Norman McCullough and Nellie D. McCullough of Girard, Georgia.   Joe was a veteran of the US Navy having served during the Korean War.  He was Honorable Discharged and proudly served his great country.  While in the Navy he meet the love of his life Mary Ann Lockner McCullough and got married in October 1953, and she is the joy of his life all these years until death.

A graduate of Commercial High School Class of 1951, and still a proud Commercial Cobra; following High School Joe went on to Graduate from Armstrong College, West Virginia War on Poverty Program under President's Johnson War on Poverty and attended many classes and programs on City's Planning and Zoning Committees and was an active member of the City Planning and Zoning Committee for many years.  He retired from Union Camp Corporation after 45 years of service with the Company working in the Mill Technical Department all these years. He was a local union official for over 30 years with the United Paper Workers International Union as Secretary; sitting in on many labor negations, grievance and arbitration cases.

Joe was an active member of Garden City Primitive Baptist Church.  His greatest joy in life was accepting Jesus Christ as his personal Savior because he want have to cross Jordan alone.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Oliver McCullough; sister, Gloria McCullough Duggar; grandson, Vincent McCullough; many uncles and aunts.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; children, Nancy Jenkins (Tom) of North Carolina, Joseph B. McCullough, Jr. (Priscilla), Mark McCullough (Mary Kay); 2 uncles, LD and Earnest McCullough; other family and many friends.

The family will receive friends Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 at 10:00 am in Chapel of the Funeral Home, with Pastor Elder Hugh Thompson officiating.

Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park Cemetery.
