Jonathan Rivera, 35, of Port Wentworth, GA, Died in his home on Tuesday, February 7th, 2017.
He was born in Springfield, MA on February 19, 1981 to his parents; Jorge A. Rivera and Nancy Oquendo Gonzalez. He grew up between Springfield, MA and Westminster, VT where he attended school. Jonathan Attended Kurn Hattin in Westminster, VT for four years, where many bonds were created and long-lasting friendships formed. He then attended The High School of Science and Technology in Springfield, MA. As a child his siblings lovingly referred to him as "destructo bomb"; in reference to his ability to completely dismantle anything mechanical in his quest to understand how things worked. This passion and curiosity led to his enrollment in Career Tech in West Springfield, MA right after high school and later in Savannah Tech. He excelled in this field accumulating numerous welding and software certifications.
Jonathan was always an adventurer; living in many places throughout his life. He lived as far North as Burlington, VT, as far West as Sacramento, California to as far South as Florida. He never stayed in any one place too long; until he settled in Savannah, GA. There he put down roots, built a home and lived the last 10 years of his life. He worked at Precision Machining for most of this time earning recognition and promotions for his dedication to his work, team and the company.
He loved "tinkering" as a good friend fondly put it. Mechanics and machining were more than his chosen career path, but also his hobby. He was a car enthusiast and was often involved in building or modifying a car; especially as it related to speed . This led to an interest in the aerospace field; which he was actively pursuing at the time of his death.
He is survived by his parents, his brother, Jorge A Rivera, and sister, Erika Rivera. He also leaves many aunts, uncles and dozens of cousins. He is survived by his closest friends; Tasha, Ariel, Kwame, Ivan, Brian, Crystal and Steven; who will miss him dearly.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, Thursday, February 16 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, located at 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah.
