John Ray Waldhauer, Sr. age 78 transitioned to his heavenly home on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Memorial Hospital surrounded by family. Born in Savannah, GA, he was the son of the late Winston and Genny Waldhauer.
John attended Savannah High School. After high school he was employed by the Civil Service where he worked his way up to manager of the Hunter Bowling Lanes on HAAF. After 23 years, he retired from the Civil Service, then opened his own automotive garage. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
In his spare time, John enjoyed restoring antique cars. He served as President of the Georgia Old Car Club and a member of the Dixieland Cruisers. He was also a member of the Elks Club and a long time Nascar fan.
John is preceded in death by his parents Winston and Genny Waldhauer and a brother Bick Waldhauer.
He is survived by his wife, Mary “Mickie” Waldhauer, 3 sons Jay (Jennifer), Shawn (Angie) and Shannon Waldhauer, 7 grandsons, John Ray, Adam (Lori), Nicholas, Marcus, Matthew, Andrew and Alistar Waldhauer, a brother Derell (Eden) Waldhauer, a sister Brenda (Danny) Armer, along with several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 W. 31st Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401 on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 12:00 noon, preceded by visitation at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or any charity of your choosing.
