John David "Johnny" Roper

John David “Johnny” Roper, 68, died Wednesday, January 18, 2023.
He was a lifelong beloved resident of Port Wentworth. He earned the nickname “Mr. Port Wentworth” because he seemed to know everyone and never met a stranger. He could often be found riding his bike all over the city. Johnny attended services at First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth alongside his mother and was a former member of the Special Angels Handbell Choir. He was previously employed with the Coastal Center for Developmental Services.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Linda Roper of Rincon; two nephews, Joshua Roper of Atlanta and Timothy Roper of Rincon.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 23, 2023 at 11 am in the Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Paul Mongin officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey East on Wheaton Street.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Pruitt Health for all of the loving care they provided to Johnny in the last several years.
Remembrances may be made in Johnny’s honor to First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth.
