John Edward Tapp

John Edward Tapp, 52, of Garden City, Ga., died Friday, August 28, 2015 at his residence, under the care of Hospice Savannah, surrounded by family and friends, after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Tripoli, Africa, John was a 1981 graduate of Sandalwood High School in Jacksonville, Florida and was employed as a police officer at Georgia Ports Authority until shortly before his death and with the Effingham County Sheriff's Office from 1998-2007. He was known for his integrity, loyalty, and dedication to his wife, family, friends, employers and co-workers and was admired and respected by anyone who knew him. John had a passion for flying and often spent time soaring the skies with his wife, family and friends before his illness.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Tapp, of Savannah, a son, Austin Tapp of Rincon, his mother, Rebecca Tapp of Rincon and a brother, Eric Tapp (Lori) of Chesapeake, Virginia and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2 - 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015 in the Chapel of Riggs Funeral Home, in Springfield, Ga.
Memorial Service:  3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept 1, 2015 in the Chapel of Riggs Funeral Home, in Springfield, Ga..
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the American Cancer Society in John's name.
