John Daniel Willoughby, Sr., 82, of Savannah, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 at Oxton Place of Savannah, surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin DeLeon Willoughby and Elizabeth Overman Bissette Willoughby; brother, Christopher C. Evans, and great grandson, John Patrick Sauers.
He was born in Princeton, N.C, and moved to Savannah in 1952.
He was a veteran, having served 10 years in the US Air Force, and was retired from the Georgia Air National Guard, where he served as a Crew Chief on  C130's. He retired as a Master Sergeant from the Georgia Air National Guard.
An Emeritus Member of Solomon's Lodge #1, F&AM, a member of Bull Street Baptist Church, and a former member of the Bacon Park Golf Course Senior Blitz, and a Savannah Association of Flying Air National Guardsmen Member.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris Norton Willoughby, Savannah, Ga; 2 sons, John Daniel Willoughby, Jr., (Helen), and Ronald Norton Willoughby; 2 daughters, Beverly Willoughby Klenke (Rick), and Donna Willoughby Olsen (Kurt); 2 sisters, Marie W. Elvington (Keith); and Doris W. Peele, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Monday at Bonaventure Funeral Home.
Funeral Services: 2  p.m. Tuesday at Bull Street Baptist Church, with Rev. Calvin Fowler  and Rev. Bill Gardner officiating. Mr. Willoughby will be taken to the church at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, to lie in state.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Staff of Oxton Court of Savannah, (formerly Shadow Moss Nursing Home).
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Oxton Court of Savannah, Gentiva Hospice, or Bull Street Baptist Church.
