It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Allen Crosby Sr., affectionately known as “Papa,” a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. John departed this life on January 20, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia, the city where he was born and spent his life.
John was born on December 3, 1946, in Savannah, Georgia, to his loving parents, Felton and Ruth Crosby. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edward Crosby.
A proud graduate of the Groves High School Class of 1965, John's life was marked by a steadfast dedication to his family, work, and community. He served his country with bravery and honor in the United States Army, drafted during the Vietnam War and stationed in Italy, where he created cherished lifelong memories.
John's greatest passion was his family. He took immense pride in supporting his grandchildren's sporting events, always in the stands with a smile and words of encouragement. Whether attending games, enjoying family cookouts, or simply spending quality time together, John found his greatest joy in the company of his loved ones.
John was a man of many talents and pursuits. He worked as a Computer Programmer for Kaiser Chemical before transitioning to a rewarding career as a Sales Associate at The Home Depot. Beyond his career, John embraced the simple joys of life. An avid outdoorsman, he found peace and excitement in boating along Savannah’s waterways.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, he loved cheering on Georgia Bulldogs football and could often be found celebrating victories with friends and family. His love for sports extended beyond being a fan; for many years, he served as a respected official for recreational and high school leagues in baseball, football, and volleyball. His commitment to fairness and sportsmanship left a lasting impression on players, coaches, and fans alike.
He is survived by his beloved children: John A. Crosby Jr. of Savannah, GA; his daughter, Janet Lundquist, and her husband, Troy, of Hamilton, GA; and his former daughter-in-law, Reema Crosby. His cherished grandchildren, Cameron and Maya Crosby, and Carolyne and Davin Lundquist, brought boundless happiness to his life. John is also survived by his sisters, Lila Cobb and Vickie Ledlow, along with numerous other family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
The life of John Allen Crosby, Sr. is a testament to kindness, dedication, and the joy of sharing time with loved ones.
