Joan Christine Chester Walz Honeycutt, 89, passed away August 20, 2024 at her residence. The Savannah native was a lifelong member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school to preschool aged children for 60 years. She served as an administrative assistant in the medical field for many years, working for Dr. Center, Dr. Edwards, and several others. She was also employed by Sipples Mortuary as a receptionist.
More than anything, Joan enjoyed being MeeMaw to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards, eating out, and watching as many Braves, Falcons, and Bulldog games as possible.
Joan was preceded in death by her son, Walter Louis Walz, Jr., and by her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Cecil Leggett.
Survivors include her loving husband of 59 years, David Honeycutt; daughter, Dawn (Marshall) Kutchey; daughter-in-law, Jean Walz; grandchildren, Tiffany (Stephen) Bradley; Bobby (Xada) Kutchey; Kristen (Will) Patterson; and Christopher Walz. She also leaves behind her cherished great grandchildren, Miller, Walt, Meris, Ella, Winslet, Louie, and Emory, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving friends 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2024 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 7375 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406
