Joan Gibson Poppell

Joan Gibson Poppell, age 72, of Savannah passed away Sunday, March 06, 2022.

Mrs. Poppell was born on September 22, 1949 in Wilmington, DE, the daughter of the late Margery Robinson Gibson and Jesse Gibson, Jr. She grew up at St. Simons Island and was a graduate of Glynn Academy. She was a member of Compassion Christian Church – Henderson Campus. She enjoyed shopping, fashion, jewelry, and was a “shoesaholic”, but most of all she was a loving mom and cared for her family.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poppell was preceded in death by her brother, Steve Gibson. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Robert E. Poppell Sr.; children, Raegan Dillon (Jimmy), Rob Poppell (Marianne), Adam Poppell (Melissa), and Marne Poppell; sisters, Linda Young, Meg Self (John), and Margaret Carlson (Art); brother, Jesse Gibson III (Linda); sister-in-law, Debra Gibson; grandchildren, Joshua Dillon (Erin), Hailie Poppell, Dalton Poppell, Nick Dillon, Timmy Dillon, Kate Poppell, Lawson Poppell, Daniel Dillon, Brady Poppell, and Palmer Poppell; and great grandchildren, Josh Dillon Jr. and Evie Dillon.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406. The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
