Jimmy H. Purvis, age 88, of Savannah passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Purvis was born on September 1, 1933 in Glennville, GA, the son of the late Milton Lee and Georgia Griffin Purvis. He was a graduate of Glennville High School and continued his formal education at Georgia Military College. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He worked in sales and retired from Kraft Foods after many years of service. Jimmy was a longtime member of South Gardens Baptist Church and Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a member of Solomon’s Lodge #1, F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite Consistory-Valley of Savannah, and the Alee Shrine where he was active with the Greeters. He was also a member of the VFW and the Savannah Elks Lodge. Jimmy enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing softball, and was an avid golfer.
Mr. Purvis was preceded in death by his brothers, Gene Purvis and Harry Lee Purvis. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ann Purvis; daughters, Amy Veale (Norman), Andrea Byington, and Amber Crump (Bob); sister, Betty Durrence; grandchildren, Zachary (Rebecca), Stephen (Isabel), Dylan, Elizabeth, Sara (Darren), and Nicholas; and great grandchildren, Graham, Addy, Bryson, Lincoln, Robbie, and Maggie.
The family will be receiving friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 3, 2022 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 4, 2022 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel. Burial will follow at Glennville City Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Zachary Blackwelder, Stephen Crump, Nicholas Crump, Darren Tillotson, Bob Crump, and Norman Veale.
