Jimmie Rea Wooten McCarthy, age 88, of Savannah, Georgia passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
Jimmie was born to the parents of Azilee Peacock Wooten and Marvin R. Wooten in Hawkinsville, South Carolina. Jimmie met her husband in Thunderbolt, Georgia. Harry had just came into a restaurant from water skiing when Ms. Jimmie and Harry locked eyes. The two were married only a short month later in South Carolina. Jimmie was a self employed hairdresser. Her loving husband Harry built Jimmie her own salon attached to the house where she enjoyed talking with the ladies while she worked.
Jimmie was a sweetheart that loved her family. She often reminded others that, “Family meant everything.” In her spare time, she loved to read and travel. However, Jimmie learned after a vacation to Hawaii that she did not like to fly so much. So, Harry bought them a motorcoach. They loved to pack up the motorcoach and just drive with no plans on where the two were going. The most memorable trips were with their grandsons. They traveled to Alaska with their grandson John and took their grandson Sean to Busch Gardens.
Jimmie was a member of both the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist and The First Assembly of God.
Jimmie is preceded in death by her beloved son Ronnie Quillen McCarthy, and twins; her parents; six brothers; and four sisters.
She is survived by her husband of sixty four years, Harry William McCarthy; one son, John Charles McCarthy (Karen); two grandsons, John McCarthy, Sean McCarthy (Sarah); three great grandchildren; two sisters, Gloria Sawyer, Lillian Culver; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406.
