Jean Latrelle Wilkes

Jean Latrelle Wilkes, age 80, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at home.
Mrs. Wilkes was born on January 9, 1941 in Savannah, the daughter of the late Sarah English Schuman and Ernest O. “Shorty” English. She attended Silk Hope Baptist Church and was a graduate of Savannah High School. She began her career working at Gould Elementary School and later with Savannah Christian Preparatory School where she worked in the cafeteria, taught as a substitute teacher, and was a bus driver, retiring after over 30 years of service. She enjoyed bird watching, reading, and traveling.
Mrs. Wilkes was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Grover C. Wilkes, Jr. and her brothers, Dwight and Kerry English. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Medina and Susan Robertson (William “Bill”); brother, Ernie English (Helen); sister, Fredna Ammons; grandchildren, Katelyn Robertson and William “Aaron” Robertson; and her beloved cat, Lucky.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 315 Greenwich Road, Savannah, GA 31404.
