Jean Kutchey

February 19, 1936 — April 23, 2021

Mrs. Letty “Jean” Kutchey passed away peacefully on April 23, 2021 after a lengthy illness.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert Marshall Kutchey, Sr. and her children, Lisa Kutchey Simons (Alton) and Robert Marshall Kutchey, Jr. (Dawn). Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Patsy Messer McElroy. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Mandy Lynn Tramell, Robert “Bobby” Marshall Kutchey, III (Xada), Andrew Lee Tillman, Kristen Kutchey, Cody and Corey Simons, three great grandchildren, Walt, Meris and Ella Louise, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, John D. and Lorell Messer of Athens, GA and her brother, J.D. Messer, also of Athens. Jean was born and grew up in Athens, Georgia, graduating from Athens High School. She met Robert Kutchey at a VFW Square Dance when he was in college at the University of Georgia. They married in Athens upon his graduation and established their home in Savannah, Georgia. Together they owned and operated Kutchey Auto Supply and Chatham Automotive Warehouse until 2006 when they decided to retire.

An avid Georgia football fan her entire life, Jean enjoyed every season attending home and away games. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and a kind, loyal friend.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday April 28, 2021 1pm at Bonaventure Cemetery with Rev. Guy Boyd officiating.

The family wishes to extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Jeffrey Schyberg.
