Janie Durham Shuman

d. October 12, 2017

Janie Durham Shuman passed away on Tuesday, October 10th in her hometown of Savannah, Georgia at the age of 70.

Janie was a graduate of Savannah High School, The University of Tennessee and held a Master's Degree from Vanderbilt University in Higher Education Administration.

Janie loved books and was an avid reader. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, distance running and aerobics classes.  Janie always found joy in the Fall colors of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the white sand of the Gulf of Mexico and a good cup of coffee.  She inherited her substantial cooking skills from her mother and bravely faced the unreasonable expectation of baking the perfect chocolate pound cake for every family gathering.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jeanette Durham and is survived by her husband, Robert Shuman; brother, Sam Durham; sister-in-law, Jan Durham; daughters, Mary S. Shuman and Christine Shuman McCutchen and husband Michael McCutchen and grandchildren, Macy, Finn and Alexandra.; niece, Heather Durham Nadler; son-in-law, Brent Long and grandchildren Charlotte Long and Ben Long.

Services will be held on Saturday, Oct 14th starting with a visitation at 1:00PM in Hoffner Hall at St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 W. 31st St. Savannah, to be followed with a memorial service at 2:00PM.  Burial will take place at Bonaventure Cemetery immediately following the service.
