Jane Huckabee Greene

d. August 29, 2018

Jane Huckabee Greene, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly at her home on August 27, 2018.  She was born on April 16, 1953 in Richmond, Virginia.  Jane was preceded in death by her parents Betsy Lawrence Huckabee and Edgar Bowen Huckabee.

Jane lived in Richmond, Virginia, through her junior year in high school.  Her family then moved to Durham, NC in 1970. She graduated from C.E. Jordan High School in 1971 and was presented as a Durham Debutante that same year. Jane graduated from the University of Georgia in 1975 with a B.A. of Arts in Journalism.  She acquired her Doctor of Jurisprudence from John Marshall Law School in 1981.  She played tennis for the Savannah Yacht Club at the A level. She fished tournaments and was the first and six-time recipient of the Rosalind Demere Award for the Savannah Sports Fishing Club. She fished with her husband, Bruce, in many Blue Marlin Tournaments in Georgia, South Carolina, and the Bahamas. Jane was an avid participant at the Islands YMCA, both in group classes and personal training, taking her fitness seriously, running the New York Marathon, several half marathons and many local races, always with her sense of determination, humor and grace.

An orchid lover, she carried this passion to their home in the Bahamas, showcasing many varieties. Her love of gardening grew with her, as did the love she had for the many Labradors she raised as "children" in her life, Hoss, Huck, Scrap, Bruce, Betsy, Bruce II, Lane, Davis and Baynes -- all dearly loved and loyal to the end.

Her reach was broad. A casual acquaintance became a best friend and her generosity knew no bounds - ever.  When hosting friends and family, her outpouring of love for others was always on full display, making sure every experience was achieved to the fullest.

Jane is survived by her husband, Bruce William Greene, her brother, Edgar Bowen Huckabee, Jr. and nephew, Edgar Bowen Huckabee, III, whom she loved and adored as if he were her son, both of Durham, NC.   Also surviving is her step-son, Bruce Greene, Jr., his wife, Michelle, their two children, Bruce III, and Mary Baynes of Savannah, her step-daughter Tara Greene Levengood, her husband, Lane, and their sons, Lane, Jr., Davis, and Finn of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, her godson,Zachary Barnard, and her two loving Labradors, Davis and Baynes.
