James 'Jimmy' Wiley Ray Jr

James "Jimmy" Wiley Ray, Jr., 74, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at Memorial Health.

Jimmy was born May 22, 1948 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late James "J.W." Wiley Ray, Sr. and the late Jean Malissa Stone Scarlett. He lived in Winston-Salem with his late grandmother, Mary Suzanne Stone, Mother, and sister till moving to Savannah with his sister Joyce, in 1963 to live with their Dad and family in Savannah.

After graduating from Richard Arnold High School he worked at Oelschig's Nursery for many years; with his Dad at their service stations in Savannah and Port Wentworth and delivered the Savannah Morning News with his 2nd Mom, Muriel, for many years.

After moving to Tybee Island in 1980 he worked for the City of Tybee handling various duties and loved every minute of it. After 28 years of loyal service he retired and moved to Pooler. Jimmy loved his family, Tybee, meeting people and the outdoors.

A sincere thank you to the nurses at Memorial Hospital, 4th floor especially to Ashley and Kaitlynn for their tender care of Jimmy.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his step-mother, Margaret "Muriel" Ray and sister, Deyette Dodd.

Survivors are his sisters, Joyce Uribe (Mike) of Stilson, Dianne Ray of Pooler, Jessica Scarlett of Tampa, FL; brother, Larry Ray of Pooler; devoted nephew, William Ray; loving great-niece, Mallory; great-nephew David; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned for a later date.
