James Whitcomb Miller & Mary Ann Miller

July 23, 1929 — April 20, 2022

James Whitcomb Miller 92, of Guyton passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at the Effingham Care & Rehabilitation Center, Nursing Home. He was born on July 23, 1929, in Newport, Vermont, the son of the late Maxwell Alvord Miller and Alice Louise (Conklin) Miller of Southold, Long Island.

Jim served in the Airforce during the Korean wartime. He had worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. and retired from there after 39 years. He worked with the Red Cross and gave many gallons of blood over the years as well as working with them on blood drives. He also worked with Habitat for Humanity, supervising, and helping to build homes as well as working at the Habitat resale store in Rincon. Jim was handy with his knowledge & tools. His hobbies included woodworking, crafts, building workshops, additions and working in his garden and watching the Braves and Redskins. Christmas was his favorite time of the year as he would help Mom decorate the whole house. He loved family time. Dad and Mom loved to go dancing in their younger days. He will be greatly missed by all.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Ann (Thren) Miller.

Jim is survived by his son, Duane Miller (Karen), of Guyton, GA; and daughter, Michele (Miller) Oliver (Rick), of Blounts Creek, N.C. He had four grandchildren, Richard Oliver Jr. (Sarah), Daniel Oliver (Ashley), Michael Miller (Shelby) and Matthew Miller; two step-grandchildren, Sean Connelly (Carla) and Kayla Brackett (Gregory); four great grandchildren, Atticus Oliver, Damon Oliver, Charlotte Oliver, Penelope Oliver; and many other nieces, nephews, family & friends.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Donald, Gene & John Miller. He was also survived by his sister Julie Alexander (Gale), and brothers Francis (Janet) & Robert (Elizabeth).

A Memorial gathering for both James Whitcomb Miller and Mary Ann Miller will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m..
