James Seagrove Morel V passed from this life into the next November 11 after a long valiant battle with polycystic kidney disease and years of hemodialysis including a transplant.
He was born February 24, 1957 to Ernest Augustus Morel and Mary Shaw Morel. Jimmy was a well known singing artist, gifted with pianistic skills and a warm barotone voice. He had recorded an album, Shine Through Me, in the 1980s.
By trade he was a much admired history teacher and taught at Mercer Middle School, Groves High School, Savannah High School and various other schools in West Chatham. He was chosen State Teacher one year, and selected to travel to WWII death camps as well as Israel for teaching "Never Again" regarding racism and Antisemitism to young people, retiring after a thirty year teaching career. He was a man of faith who did not let pain and chronic disease keep him from the foreign mission field or many years of church ministry through music, or even caring for aging infirm parents.
He is survived by a sister Rev Linda Morel Goble of New York City and a brother in law Dr Phillip Goble; an aunt, Joanne Shaw; an uncle Marvin Spilliards and numerous first and second cousins: Lisa and Jimmy Harper, David and Bonnie Shaw, Susan Shaw, Stacey Shaw-Kill, Mike and Clarissa Spilliards; Della Ward, Terry Walsh, Joshua Spilliards, Lyndsay and Sydney Harper, and, from South Carolina Larry and Harriet Hodge, Olean and Betsy Thames
