James Everett Walea, Sr. (Jim), 78, died on Monday, September 19, 2022.
Born in Chatham County, Jim lived in Garden City since 1960. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garden City. He served as a deacon, church treasurer and participated in other church organizations. He graduated from Groves High School, Armstrong Junior College and Georgia Southern College. He served in the United States Army for 2 Years. He was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado. Jim worked as an accountant at Union Camp/International Paper. He later became a Supervisor and then Manager of the Accounting Department until he retired in 2004 with 36 years of service. He worked for Indigo Construction and also Adams Warnock Corporation. Jim was a member of the Frank F. Baker Lodge #46 F&AM in Garden City.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Sue Anderson Walea (SuSu), his parents Pierce Grady Walea (Pete) and Edna Kent Walea; his nephew Larry Thomas Blissett (Ladd).
Survivors include his son James E. (Jay) Walea (Karen), daughter Kristi Walea Miller (Patrick); grandchildren Jayden Claire Walea and Saige Evan Walea, Reed Walea Miller and Briar Everett Miller; his sister Sondra Walea Blissett (Charlie); niece Kimberly Blissett Gatch (Louie), great-nephews and great-niece, Harrison Chandler Gatch (Rachel), Abigaile Katelyn Gatch, Langston Chase Gatch; uncle, Rex David Kent (Vern); and many cousins.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon Thursday, September 22, 2022 at the Funeral Home with services beginning at 12:00 noon in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be private.
