James “Jim” Alfred McNear, 95, of Savannah died Saturday, October 16, 2021.
James was born in Tattnall County, GA to Annie McCullough and Alfred C. McNear.
James was employed for 47 years, with Savannah Electric and Power Company, where he served as a purchasing agent.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Marines, in WWII, in the Invasion of Okinawa and North China, and he also served in the Georgia Air National Guard as an instructor, and the US Marines Corps Reserve.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion Post #184, the German Country Club, the Marine Corps League, Dog Company, and the Cobra Club (of Savannah High School).
He was a member of the Nelson Sunday School Class, Assistant Treasurer of Bull Street Baptist Church, a member of the Veterans Council of Chatham County; Veterans Parade Marshall in 2009, and a member of the World War II China Marine.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Coleman McNear of Savannah, GA; son, James Franklin McNear; daughters, Donna Faye Weeks Sasser (Duane) and Karen Jean Weeks Ayala (Richard); 2 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Gregory Eugene Weeks and siblings, Nettie Mae McNear, Carrie Taylor Shuman, Myrtlle Hodges, Evelyn McCord, Laverne Vandiver, Dorothy White.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2o21 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel with Rev. Earnie Pirkle and Rev. Bill Gardner officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Remembrances may be made to Bull Street Baptist Church.
