James "Bubba" Stokes passed away on the afternoon of July 26th, 2018 at the age of 70 years old at his home in Guyton, Georgia in the presence of loved ones. Born on September 17, 1947 in Savannah, Georgia to James and Emma GeneMcCook Stokes, Bubba was always ambitious. As a young boy, he started a grocery delivery service for the elderly in Savannah. Eventually, he began painting at the age of sixteen. A long-time Savannah-native, Bubba branched out and started his own business, Stokes Painting Contractors, in 1973. He was a well-regarded paint contractor in the low-country area for many years. Bubba was a loving husband to his wife of 46 years, Debbie, and a caring brother to nine siblings, a father of three, a papa to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and every niece and nephew's favorite uncle.He is remembered as both generous and kind-a man who would give until it left him with nothing. Bubba is greatly loved and missed by all those who were blessed to have known him.
Bubba is preceded in death by his mother and father;several brothers and sisters;son-in-law, Dusty Carter; granddaughter, Emma Stokes; and his dog and companion, Brutus. He is survived by his wife, caretaker for the last eight years, and best friend, Debbie Hartlaub Stokes; his children, Alisha Olding (Chris), Brandi Carter, and Jim Stokes (Mariah); two sisters, Mary Mesvery and Sylvia Sykes; eight grandchildren, Erika Mock (Travis), Dustin Carter, James Carter, Devon Olding, Christopher Olding, Emily Olding, James Stokes, and Baylee Stokes; and three very spoiled great-grandchildren, Kori, Riley, and Ashton.
Visitation for Bubba will be held at 11 AM to 12 PM at Central Baptist Church in Garden City, Georgia on Monday, July 30th, 2018
Funeral Service will be led by Reverend Brother Kenny Harrelson Monday at 12 pm July 30, 2018 Central Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Bonaventure Cemetery.
