James Ronald Denton, age 67, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Candler Hospital.
His loved ones called him "Ronnie", his dear friends at Baker McCullough Funeral Home called him "James".
Ronnie was born July 20, 1956 in Greensboro, Georgia to the parents of Jean Kitchens Denton and the late James Denton. He attended Perry High School and graduated in 1974.
After twenty three years of service to his community, Ronnie retired as a Houston County Deputy Sheriff. After retirement, he worked part time in security and at Baker McCullough Funeral Home where he took pride in helping us serve our families and community.
Ronnie was a kind and gentle soul. He would take the shirt off his back to help a stranger in need. He was gifted with an unparalleled sense of humor. Ronnie enjoyed watching wrestling and John Wayne, collecting pocket knives, his painting app on his phone, and researching his Cherokee heritage and researching other Native American history.
Ronnie is survived by his wife in which he met when he was 5 years old that grew up across the cow pasture from him, Susan Nappier Denton; his daughters, Alicia (Matt) Knowles, and Ronda Mathis; three grandchildren, James, Daniel, and Kinley Knowles; and his mother, Jean Denton.
He is preceded in death by his father, James Denton; and his brother, Greg Denton.
On behalf of Ronnie, the family would like to thank all the healthcare workers that ever assisted in caring for Ronnie. He had the utmost respect for medical professionals and cared for them deeply.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406.
A memorial service is also being planned to be held in Perry, Georgia at a later date.
