James C. Davis of Bloomingdale, Ga. 86, , heard the trumpet sound and went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 26, 2018. He passed away peacefully at home under the care of Compassus.
James Davis was born in Savannah, GA. on June 3, 1932 to the late E. W. Davis and Corrie Davis Baxley. He joined the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS Piedmont. He was a veteran of the Korean War. After his service with the Navy, he joined the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Alaska. Following his service in the Army, he joined the Air Force. After his enlistment in the Air Force, he joined the 165th Air National Guard Unit where he retired as a Senior Master Sergeant.
He was also a member of Landrum Lodge # 48, F. & A.M's, in Savannah, Ga.
He was employed by Union Camp where he retired after 35 years. He also coached Little League baseball at Taylor Park for many years.
He was a member of South Newington Baptist Church for over 52 years and served on the grounds committee for many years. He loved fishing, bowling and going on cruises and going to the auction., watching his great grandchildren play ball. J.C. and his wife Betty opened their heart and home to over 67 foster children that they called their own.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather Jack Baxley of Barnwell, S.C. His wife of 52 years Betty Davis of Bloomingdale, daughters, Patricia Waters of Bloomingale and Teresa Davis of Bloomingdale., Brothers, E. W. Davis of Bloomingale, Johnny Davis of Barnwell, S.C., Myrtle Davis of Savannah and Lois Williams of Barnwell, S.C.
He is survived by his brother, Jessie Davis of Pembroke, Ga, sons, James C. Davis, Jr., of Bloomingdale, Ga and Kenny Waters of Statesboro, Ga., Daughters, Peggy Davis of Myrtle Beach, SC, Janice Ballard (Robert) of Kentucky, Robin Kennedy, (Lyle) of Bloomingdla, Ga Belinda Myers (Robbie) of Ellabell, Ga., Angie Taylor (Allen) of Clyo, and Tina Shamlian of Bloomingdale, Ga., (19) grandchildren, (23) great grandchildren, numerous great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5 - 8 pm Saturday June 30, 2018 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel. Funeral service will be 2 pm Sunday at South Newington Baptist Church with Rev. Steve McCoy and Brother Clint McCullough officiating. Interment will be at Bethel Cemetery on Little Neck Road in Savannah, GA.
