Captain James Hamilton Banks, age 88, of Savannah, passed away Monday, January 2, 2023 at his residence.
He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and was a veteran having served and retired after 20 years in the United States Air Force. He was also retired from The Salvation Army as an Officer (Captain), having served throughout the state of Georgia for 20 years.
James Hamilton Banks is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Louella Beasley Banks; son and daughter-in-law, Micheal & Linda James of Savannah; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
He graduated from St. Leo’s College with a Bachelor’s in Sociology. He was a lifelong Salvationist having love for its music and musical programs as well as being a Bandsman and Bandmaster. He was a lover of laughter and fellowship with others. He was an avid fisherman for many years and food was his love language.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening, January 5, 2023 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel (7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive Savannah, Georgia 31406).
A funeral service will be held Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel (7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive Savannah, Georgia 31406).
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery, 1600 Wheaton Street, Savannah, Georgia 31404.
