James A. Parker, age 70, of Savannah passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021.
Mr. Parker was born on October 18, 1950 in Anderson, SC, the son of the late James William Parker, Jr. and Opal Holcombe Parker. He was a 1969 graduate of Jenkins High School and continued his formal education at Armstrong State College. Early in his career he served as a police officer with the City of Pooler. After 18 years of service, he retired as the Administrator of Park and Tree Services with the City of Savannah. Following his retirement he served as a board member of the Park and Tree Commission. He was a veteran of the Georgia Air National Guard. He was a longtime member of Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church and was currently a member of The Kirk Presbyterian. James loved the Lord with all of his heart and adored time spent his family, being a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Mr. Parker is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Debra Parker; sons, James Matthew Parker and Joshua Bennett Parker (Ashley Udell Parker); grandson, Colton Murphy Parker; brother, William Marion Parker (Anne M. Parker); aunt, Elaine P. Johnson; and uncle, Kenneth Parker (Kay).
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 23, 2021 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 24, 2021 at The Kirk Presbyterian, 3212 Bee Road, Savannah, GA 31404.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
