Jack Keith Berry passed away in Savannah, Georgia on August 24, 2022.
He was born in Colleton County, SC on August 30, 1930, and was the son of Percy M. and Pearl G. Berry. Jack graduated from Savannah High School in 1948; graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in June, 1953; and graduated from Emory University School of Law in June, 1958. Jack served on active duty and reserve duty with the U.S. Air Force, retiring in June, 1983 with the rank of Colonel. His military career was in communications and later as Judge Advocate. Military awards include Legion of Merit, Presidential Unit Citation and the Outstanding Unit Award. He was a member of the Reserve Officers Association, Military Order of World Wars, American Legion and the Air Force Judge Advocates Association.
Jack practiced law in Savannah from 1958 until retirement in 2003. He was a member of the State Bar of Georgia, Federal Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He served as the Chapter 13 Trustee for the Southern District of Georgia and later as the Assistant U. S. Trustee. He was a member of Georgia House of Representatives during 1967-1969. He was the town attorney and judge for the City of Pooler 1970-1975. He was an active community leader and member of many civic organizations including the Exchange Club of Savannah, Savannah Quarterback Club, Jenkins Athletic Club, BPOE Lodge 183, Greater Savannah Athletic Hall of Fame, NACTT and Consumer Credit Counseling; he served as president of each of those organizations as well. He was a past chair of the Board of Trustees for the Savannah Country Day School.
He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Trustee, Department leader and Sunday School teacher.
Jack is survived by Frances, his wife of 68 years; three children: J. Keith Berry, Jr. (Teresa), Karen B. Wharton (Charles), Christine B. Lloyd (Kevin); six grandchildren: Ryan S. Berry (Brittany), Spencer G. Berry, Charles G. Wharton (Ashli), Jack R. Wharton (Nicole), Beckett S. Lloyd and Hampton S. Lloyd; and
two great grandchildren: George Wharton and Annalise Berry.
Visitation will be held 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday August 28, 2022 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA.
A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday August 29, 2022 at Baker McCullough Funeral Home 7415 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA.
